the curious case of benjamin button
no it's not quite as inane as Forrest Gump. it has an interesting premise and while the film deviates frequently from its internal logic, it does keep you wanting to find out what will happen when Benjamin reverts to infancy. he seems to have only four different ages during the film - maybe that's all the make-up they could afford. as for Cate Blanchett's whimsical dancer leading lady, she didn't do anything for me. Tilda Swinton was much better. and the flashback/katrina conceit made me nauseous. but there's enough there to keep you awake for the almost three hours.

i definitely want to see this, if only because of its brotherhood with a book i loved, the confessions of max tivoli by andrew sean greer. same premise, set in san francisco in the late 19th/early 20th.
I want to see this too. but mostly just b/c it was filmed in part on Water Island (the tiny small island just off St Thomas where the seaplane lands near) while we were there. I'm going to save it for renting though. I can't sit through 3 hours in a movie theatre.
The most beautiful thing about this movie is the sweetness and innocence of the character in the early goings (before leaving home) ...
