up in the air

I was hoping this movie would make sense of the book on which its based about a frequent flyer descending into madness and paranoia (or is he?) but at the hands of the writers it became instead a story of an unconnected man who, through his association with two women, begins to connect (or does he?). it's probably a pretty good movie, and it has one funny joke, but I was still disappointed.

I can do bad all by myself

this Tyler Perry movie has a little more melodrama and a little less comedy (read: Madea) than usual, but it's moving and enjoyable nonetheless. Taraji P Henson is very convincing as a strung-out, selfish nightclub singer, and the predictable ending still satisfies.

humpday

starts out vaguely interesting - if you can bring yourself to care about two straight guys talking themselves and a wife into a gay porn film - then completely fizzles out by the end.

brothers

this is a full-on war movie - disturbing and intense. it made me fall in love with Jake Gyllenhaal all over again.

cairo time

named best Canadian movie of the year, this movie makes you pine for Cairo whether you've ever been there or not. Patricia Clarkson is excellent and Alexander Siddig is very sexy.

whip it

MFM. this movie is a huge waste of Ellen Page.

the blind side

MFM. a fantastic true story in a not so fantastic movie. oddly enough, the real Leanne Twohey is better looking than Sandra Bullock.

couples retreat

movies for mommies. free baby food, diapers, and wipes. this is what it's come to. considering the presence of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, this movie is conspicuously unfunny.
